Visual Elements

Visual signs operate to create meaning and play a fundamental role in our communication system. Used extensively in the marketing and promotion of consumer goods, visual cues take many forms.  In the packaging of cigarettes, these forms include the following elements: canvas/background, coat of arms, colour, finishes, hot-foil stamping, inner foil, logos and trademarked imagery, monograms, and typography. Working individually and in concert, visual elements help to convey meaning to viewers including thematic content and socio-cultural connotations.
